The Association of Mega Filling Station Owners of Nigeria has called for a stronger partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to help reduce the cost of fuel distribution to local government areas across the country.
In a statement released Monday in Kaduna, AMFSON President Davidson Ukatta said the association’s members, with filling stations across Nigeria’s 774 local councils, could help make petroleum products more accessible and affordable to residents in rural areas.
Ukatta emphasised that the management of NNPC and other key players in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry should view AMFSON not only as business associates but as partners in delivering fuel at cheaper rates.
“AMFSON is well-structured to assist in making petroleum products available to Nigerians. Our members are located across the 774 local councils in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory,” Ukatta said.
He noted that while NNPC Retail filling stations are primarily located in state capitals, AMFSON has a broader reach with its outlets in rural communities, making it easier for people to access fuel at lower prices.
“There is a need for all critical stakeholders to rally around AMFSON in its effort to ensure fuel is available across the country,” he added. “NNPC Limited should deepen its relationship with AMFSON members as part of its strategy to provide cheaper petroleum products to the public.”
Ukatta also stated that AMFSON is the only group capable of effectively supporting NNPC’s retail policy, which aims to ensure affordable fuel for Nigerians.
“Our members are well-equipped to drive the policy behind the establishment of NNPC Limited, which aims to provide petroleum products at affordable rates. With our extensive network, the public can easily access fuel at cheaper prices,” Ukatta said.
He also celebrated the relocation of AMFSON’s national secretariat from Gwagwalada, a remote area of Abuja, to the city center, marking a significant milestone for the association.
