Crude Production Rises to 1.8m Barrels Daily, Says NUPRC

Nigeria’s daily crude oil production has climbed to 1.824 million barrels, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). This is the first time in July that output has surpassed the 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) mark.

The update was given during a stakeholders’ workshop held in Abuja. The event, hosted by the NUPRC, focused on “Harnessing the Potentials of Deep and Shallow Water Oil and Gas Accumulations through Clusters and Nodal Development in Nigeria.” It brought together major industry players and experts from across the upstream sector.

NUPRC Chief Executive Gbenga Komolafe said the production milestone is significant for the economy. He noted that, as of the previous day, crude production stood at 1.824 million bpd. This, he said, reflects renewed progress in stabilising Nigeria’s output levels.

To further support growth, the commission has set up a Shallow and Deepwater Cluster Development Committee. The committee will work closely with operators to design a framework that unlocks untapped offshore reserves.

“These deep and shallow water resources remain largely underdeveloped,” Komolafe stated. “We must take decisive action to increase output and reposition the oil sector as a pillar of national growth.”

Moreover, he stressed that effective collaboration is essential. The upstream industry, according to him, plays a vital role in boosting government revenue and ensuring long-term energy security.

The committee is expected to consult widely and deliver actionable recommendations. These will help guide policy and attract new investments into Nigeria’s offshore basins.

The workshop is part of NUPRC’s broader push to drive sustainable growth across the upstream value chain. It also aligns with national efforts to revamp production capacity and improve investor confidence.
