Dangote Halts Loading as Tinubu Visits Refinery

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery temporarily suspended loading and dispatch operations on Thursday ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official visit.

Petroleumprice.ng observed that gantry activities came to a standstill during the President’s arrival. Truck movement within the facility was also limited. The halt aligned with standard security and protocol arrangements for high-level visits.

Security personnel increased their presence across the refinery grounds. Logistics teams made adjustments to streamline access and ensure smooth coordination throughout the tour.

This visit marks President Tinubu’s first to the 650,000-barrels-per-day facility since his inauguration in May 2023. During the visit, he inspected key installations and reviewed ongoing operations.

The refinery began the domestic supply of diesel and aviation fuel earlier this year. Full petrol production is still ramping up.

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, accompanied the President on the guided tour. Their meeting followed their earlier engagement on Tuesday in Lagos. On that occasion, President Tinubu conferred a national honour on philanthropist Bill Gates, with Dangote in attendance.

The refinery visit highlights the federal government’s support for domestic refining initiatives. It also underscores the strategic importance of reducing Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports and managing foreign exchange demand more effectively.

The refinery is expected to resume normal loading operations once the visit concludes.
