Dangote Refinery Puts Fuel Oil Up for Sale, Document Reveals

Dangote oil refinery has announced a tender to sell 128,000 metric tonnes of fuel oil in April, according to a summary of a tender document shared by a market insider.

The refinery, which can process 650,000 barrels of oil per day, will accept bids until Wednesday at 12:00 GMT. It is offering 88,000 tonnes of low-sulphur straight run fuel oil and 40,000 tonnes of slurry oil, with loading planned for April 10-12.

Dangote refinery did not reply to requests for more details.

The refinery also plans to shut down its 204,000 barrel-per-day gasoline production unit for 30 days of maintenance, starting around June 1, according to industry tracker IIR.

Straight run fuel oil is a raw material that other refining units turn into products like petrol and diesel.

Data from Kpler, a shipping analytics company, shows Dangote exported an average of 75,000 barrels per day of fuel oil between March and August 2024. This dropped to 20,000 barrels per day from September when its gasoline-making unit kicked off.
