Dangote Refinery Restricts LPG Tanker Entry Over Safety Compliance

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has introduced a new safety requirement restricting access for LPG and propane tankers that do not present valid Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) test certificates at the point of entry.

In a notice issued by its Group Commercial Operations, the refinery stated that the directive takes immediate effect and applies to all incoming LPG and propane transport vehicles.

The measure follows recorded incidents involving unintended releases of LPG and propane during and after loading operations. According to the refinery, these incidents were linked to the activation of pressure safety valves and have been classified as High Potential (HiPo) safety events due to the associated risks to personnel, infrastructure, and the environment.

Under the new requirement, all LPG and propane tankers must be fitted with compliant pressure safety valves and must present valid, up to date PSV test certificates for verification before gaining access to the facility.

The refinery advised customers to ensure that transporters and logistics partners are informed of the directive to prevent delays or denial of entry at the gate.

The development reflects a tightening of safety protocols at the facility, with the company emphasising the need for strict compliance to maintain operational integrity and reduce the risk of safety incidents during product handling.
