The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has unveiled details of its world-class gantry loading facility, describing it as a critical pillar of its fuel (PMS) and diesel distribution system designed to ensure steady supply, lower logistics costs and nationwide market stability.
In a statement, the refinery said the gantry infrastructure allows it to efficiently evacuate refined products directly to the domestic market, reducing dependence on costly coastal logistics and improving turnaround time for marketers.
High-capacity gantry drives 24-hour fuel evacuation
According to the refinery, the gantry facility comprises 91 loading bays and operates on a 24-hour basis, with the capacity to load up to 2,900 trucks daily. At full utilisation, the gantry can evacuate more than 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 14 million litres of diesel every day volumes that align closely with Nigeria’s average daily consumption.
The refinery explained that continuous gantry operations enable faster product movement from processing units to retail distribution channels, helping to minimise supply disruptions and improve availability across the downstream market.
Industry analysts say the scale of the gantry system places the Dangote Refinery among the most advanced refining and distribution hubs globally.
Gantry loading cuts costs, improves efficiency
Dangote Refinery identified gantry loading as the most cost-efficient product evacuation method, as it eliminates port charges, maritime levies and vessel-related expenses that typically inflate fuel prices.
By loading directly into road tankers, the refinery said marketers avoid additional logistics layers that do not add value to end users. This efficiency, it noted, supports price moderation in Nigeria’s deregulated fuel market while improving supply predictability.
The company also clarified that marketers are free to choose between gantry and coastal loading options, depending on their operational needs, but stressed that gantry loading offers the lowest cost route to market.
Boost to supply stability and fuel prices
The refinery linked recent improvements in fuel availability and pricing to increased local refining backed by high-capacity gantry evacuation. According to the company, sustained gantry operations have contributed to lower diesel and PMS prices by cutting import reliance and easing pressure on foreign exchange.
Beyond pricing, the refinery said the gantry facility strengthens Nigeria’s energy security by supporting uninterrupted domestic supply and reducing exposure to international shipping delays and market volatility.
Dangote Refinery maintained that continued investment in large-scale gantry infrastructure remains essential to delivering affordable fuel, improving downstream efficiency and supporting long-term growth in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
