Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s free fuel distribution scheme has reached Edo State, with Kifayat Filling Station on the Benin Bypass confirmed as one of the outlets receiving Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) under the programme. Petroleumprice.ng verified the deliveries on Sunday.
The milestone follows Dangote’s suspension of gantry sales on September 18, which caused depot petrol prices to jump 8% in just 24 hours. The refinery has since announced it will restart gantry operations on Tuesday, September 23, giving marketers direct loading access again.
During the pause, Dangote deployed its free fuel distribution programme to bridge supply gaps. More than 1,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks loaded from the refinery and began distributing petrol across 12 states: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara, Edo, Delta, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), and Kogi.
Industry operators say the retail deliveries show Dangote’s growing presence beyond depots. “This is the first visible proof that Nigerians are beginning to see the advantage of Dangote’s refinery, as his petrol is reaching consumers,” a downstream player told Petroleumprice.ng.
Independent marketers are now watching how pump prices shift, especially in areas where transport costs remain high.
Analysts argue that direct-to-pump supply could reduce volatility if sustained. They warn, however, that consistent flow and fair access will be key to building trust among marketers and motorists.
With gantry sales set to resume in two days, more outlets are expected to begin dispensing Dangote petrol, marking a fresh phase in Nigeria’s fuel distribution network.
