The Liberia Petroleum Products Retailers Union (LIPPRU) has confirmed its participation in the 20th anniversary edition of OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week, scheduled for 25–30 October 2026 at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, under the theme "Secure Energy, Share Prosperity." LIPPRU joins other industry bodies expected at the event, including the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPMAN).
LIPPRU President Prince Tambah Nyumah said the invitation gives Liberia the opportunity to showcase developments in its petroleum sector while advocating for stronger regional fuel standards, retailer financing and an energy transition suited to the country's economic realities. He will represent more than 300 retailers operating across every county in Liberia.
As a panellist, Nyumah said he intends to push three priorities for West Africa's petroleum retail industry: harmonisation of fuel specifications and pricing models across the 15 ECOWAS markets, the establishment of a West African Retail Modernization Fund to finance tank upgrades, safety equipment and training for small and medium-sized retailers, and a transition pathway centred on LPG, biofuel blending and solar-hybrid filling stations rather than electric vehicles.
"When the retailer is strong, the supply chain is strong. When the retailer fails, the last mile fails," Nyumah said.
With PETROAN, MEMAN, DAPMAN and now LIPPRU set to converge on Lagos, the question for other West African operators is simple: will you be in the room when the region's downstream future is decided?
