Niboro Lauds NNPC’s Petrol Supply Effort Despite Daunting Challenges

Ima Niboro, former spokesperson to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd. for its exemplary management of petrol supply despite numerous obstacles.

In an interview with TheCable, Niboro lauded NNPC’s leadership, citing its remarkable responsibility and professionalism since transitioning into a company. “The corporation has shown unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s energy security, prioritising the nation’s welfare over profit,” he noted.

NNPC’s substantial subsidy on petrol has significantly benefited Nigerians, shouldering over N600 per litre, with the landing cost approximating N1250. This gesture ensures affordability and demonstrates NNPC’s dedication to the nation’s energy needs.

As the energy supplier of last resort, NNPC’s role is crucial, mandated by the Petroleum Industry Act to guarantee energy security, which it has fulfilled admirably. Niboro also urged billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote to emulate NNPC’s approach with his refinery, by prioritising Nigerians’ welfare over profit.

“Dangote should demonstrate kindness to Nigerians, recognising the nation’s natural resources as a blessing that should benefit its citizens,” Niboro said, referencing Dangote’s Bloomberg interview where he compared Nigeria’s petrol prices to Saudi Arabia’s.

Niboro emphasised that NNPC’s patriotism has safeguarded Nigeria’s energy security. He hopes Dangote will follow suit, etching his name “in gold” through this selfless act.
