Nigerian Navy Boosts Oil Production with Maritime Operations

The Nigerian Navy has revealed that its intensified operations in the Niger Delta have led to increased oil production in the region. Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, shared that oil companies are now reporting 100% efficiency in terminal operations due to improved maritime security.

Speaking at the 2024 Ceremonial Sunset/Dinner and Awards Night held at the Naval Training Command in Rivers State, Ogalla highlighted the successes of Operation Delta Sanity, launched in January 2024. The operation has seen the arrest of individuals and vessels involved in illegal oil activities, significantly reducing pipeline vandalism and crude theft.

Ogalla attributed part of the success to collaboration with other security agencies across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, as well as the deployment of helicopters and drones to bolster surveillance. He emphasised the Navy’s role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity, ensuring the nation’s economic stability, and supporting oil production growth.

Rivers Governor Commends the Navy

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, applauded the Navy’s efforts in curbing illegal oil bunkering and enhancing maritime security. He pledged the state government’s continued support to enable the Navy to carry out its duties effectively. Fubara acknowledged the challenges posed by oil-related crimes and commended the collaborative fight against these issues.

This development underscores the critical role of enhanced security measures in Nigeria’s oil sector and the Navy’s commitment to maintaining stability in the nation’s maritime environment.
