The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has embarked on an ambitious initiative to revive the dormant Brass and Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) projects, capitalising on President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Executive Orders on Oil and Gas reforms and the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) to attract investors and unlock the projects’ vast economic potential.
According to Umar Ajiya, NNPCL’s Chief Financial Officer, the corporation is committed to leveraging these reforms to reinvigorate the projects, which have been stalled due to unfavourable market dynamics and slow decision-making by the political class in the past. The decline in gas prices resulted in high Capital Expenditure (CAPEX), discouraging investors and partners, while sluggish decision-making by the political class hindered progress.
Ajiya emphasised NNPCL’s commercially driven approach, underscoring the importance of timely project development and execution. With abundant gas resources available globally, Nigeria must make swift, smart decisions to bring partners on board and capitalise on emerging opportunities.
President Tinubu’s Presidential Executive Orders on Oil and Gas reforms have been instrumental in driving momentum for new projects, while the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 provides fiscal incentives for investors and fosters a conducive business environment.

The ongoing 2024 Gas Technology Conference and Exhibition (Gastech) in Houston, United States, serves as a strategic platform for NNPCL to explore cutting-edge technologies, decarbonise its operations, and promote its abundant LNG resources to the global market.
Reviving the Brass and Olokola LNG projects will have a profound impact on Nigeria’s economy, enhancing energy security, attracting foreign investment, promoting economic growth and development, and supporting the nation’s transition to a more sustainable energy mix.
NNPCL‘s commitment to reviving these projects demonstrates its dedication to unlocking Nigeria’s gas potential, driving economic growth, and solidifying the nation’s position as a key player in the global energy market.
As NNPCL navigates this critical phase, its strategic partnerships, technological advancements, and policy support will be pivotal in achieving success. By leveraging President Tinubu’s reforms and the PIA, NNPCL is poised to drive Nigeria’s energy sector forward, unlocking the vast potential of its gas resources.
