NNPC Retail, a downstream subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has introduced a self-service fuel dispensing feature on its NNPC Fuel app, allowing customers to pay for petrol via the App and dispense it themselves without an attendant.
To use the feature, customers need to have the NNPC Fuel App, proceed to open the app, amongst the displayed products, select PMS (as only PMS purchase is currently available for self service), then browse the station list for outlets marked with a green Self-Serve badge. After entering the purchase amount and paying from an in-app wallet, the customer receives a digital receipt containing an order ID, an eight-digit self-service code and a QR code. At the pump, the customer enters the code on the terminal and presses the hash key to validate the transaction before dispensing the exact quantity paid for.
The NNPC Fuel app also supports fuel gifting through a Me2U feature, alongside periodic discounts, a station locator, a lube finder and doorstep diesel delivery.
The rollout comes as Nigerian motorists continue to grapple with long queues and cash-handling friction at filling stations, positioning app-based self-service as NNPC's answer to a persistent pain point in the downstream retail experience.
