The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has entered into a strategic agreement with Shell, TotalEnergies, and Agip to provide gas for the $3.3 billion Brass Fertiliser & Petrochemical Company Limited methanol plant.
According to the deal, NNPC and its partners will supply 270 million standard cubic feet of gas daily to the facility, which will be located on Brass Island, Bayelsa State. The signing of this agreement paves the way for the commencement of the plant’s construction.
The Nigerian government projects that the plant will generate over $1.5 billion in annual export revenue from fertilisers and petrochemicals. Moreover, it is expected to cut Nigeria’s fertiliser imports by 30%, saving approximately $200 million in foreign exchange.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to establish Nigeria as a key hub for petrochemical and industrial development, with $3.5 billion already committed to various projects within the Brass Oil and Gas City.
