NUPENG Applauds NNPCL’s Success in Port Harcourt Refinery

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for successfully re-streaming the Port Harcourt Refinery.

In a statement signed by NUPENG President William Akproheha and General Secretary Afolabi Olawale, the union described this achievement as a critical milestone in Nigeria’s journey towards energy independence. NUPENG highlighted the refinery’s crude processing restart and product dispatch as a significant boost for workers and citizens alike.

“This accomplishment reflects NNPCL’s commitment to driving energy sustainability and fostering economic growth,” NUPENG stated.

The union also commended Kyari’s leadership and resilience in overcoming challenges during the refinery’s rehabilitation. It acknowledged the collaborative efforts of President Bola Tinubu, the NNPCL board, and all involved, particularly noting over 16 million man-hours achieved without a single Loss Time Injury (LTI) a testament to meticulous planning and execution.

NUPENG emphasised the importance of the refinery’s resumed production of key products like Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Household Kerosene (HHK). This development, they said, will alleviate energy challenges and economic hardship.

The union expressed optimism for the rehabilitation of the Warri and Kaduna refineries, hopeful that similar successes will further boost Nigeria’s economy and ease the energy burden on citizens.
