The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) have reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration aimed at strengthening Nigeria's petroleum supply chain, improving operational efficiency and enhancing the country's energy security.
The renewed partnership was sealed during a high-level regulatory engagement and courtesy visit held at the NMDPRA headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, where industry leaders reviewed key challenges affecting the downstream petroleum sector and explored practical solutions to ensure seamless nationwide distribution of petroleum products.
The meeting was led by the Authority Chief Executive of NMDPRA, Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, alongside the agency's management team. The NUPENG delegation was headed by its National President, Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti, while the NARTO team was led by its National President, Alhaji Lawal Yusuf Othman.
Central to the discussions were strategies to eliminate logistics bottlenecks that continue to impede efficient product movement across the country, accelerate the adoption of technology to modernise petroleum distribution, and strengthen Nigeria's energy security as a foundation for economic growth and industrial productivity.
The engagement also brought together senior officials of NUPENG, including Deputy President Comrade Akin Oladejo, Acting General Secretary Comrade Otite Onohwohwo, National Security Coordinator and PTD Lagos Zonal Council Chairman Comrade Gbolahan Saheed Adigun, PTD National Chairman Comrade Mathias O. Ote, former General Secretary Comrade Joseph Akinlaja, PTD Warri Zone Secretary Comrade Musliu Adeniyi, and Assistant General Secretary (Research and Public Affairs) Comrade Suleiman M. Pema.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the stakeholders pledged to deepen institutional cooperation through sustained dialogue, technical engagements and joint initiatives designed to strengthen the resilience of Nigeria's downstream petroleum supply chain. They agreed that closer synergy among regulators, labour unions and transport operators remains essential to guaranteeing uninterrupted product distribution, improving market stability and supporting the nation's long-term energy security objectives.
