The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has directed that all petroleum tanker trucks display their company names and registration numbers prominently on both sides of their bodies, warning of disciplinary action against depots that load non-compliant vehicles.
The directive, which takes immediate effect, requires the inscriptions to be bold, legible and clearly visible to facilitate the identification of tanker trucks.
In a notice to union members, depot operators and other industry stakeholders, NUPENG said some existing markings were too small and difficult to read, prompting the renewed emphasis on clear identification.
The union instructed its units to communicate the requirements to tanker drivers, depot management and relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance across petroleum-loading operations.
It also warned that any depot that loads petroleum products into a tanker without the required company name and registration number clearly displayed on both sides would face disciplinary action from the union’s leadership.
The directive was issued by NUPENG’s National Chief Security Coordinator and Chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Lagos Zone.
The union called for strict compliance with the requirements but did not specify the precise penalties depots could face for violating the directive.
