Oil Prices Rally as US Iran Tensions Deepen Market Volatility

Global oil markets extended their rally at the end of the week as escalating tensions between the United States and Iran weakened expectations of a near term ceasefire and reinforced bullish sentiment across energy markets.

Crude benchmarks surged sharply with West Texas Intermediate trading in line with Brent despite differences in contract months. Physical crude prices have reportedly climbed above 140 dollars per barrel in some markets reflecting tightening supply conditions and heightened geopolitical risk reminiscent of previous market shocks.

The latest price surge follows renewed threats of disruption to energy infrastructure in the Middle East alongside discussions from Tehran around potential measures targeting vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The critical waterway accounts for a significant share of global oil shipments and any restriction continues to reverberate across international markets.

Recent remarks from United States President Donald Trump have done little to calm market nerves marking a shift from earlier weeks when policy signals helped moderate price swings. Instead traders are increasingly pricing in prolonged instability and constrained supply routes.

Attention is now turning to the upcoming meeting of the OPEC Plus where producers are expected to review output strategy. Despite ongoing supply disruptions some members are considering a modest production increase in May as the group responds to tightening global balances.

In Asia China has moved to sustain refinery activity by directing independent processors to maintain operational levels even amid weaker margins. The policy reflects efforts to stabilize domestic fuel supply as global crude costs rise.

Meanwhile the United States is exploring additional measures to ease supply concerns. The Department of Energy has indicated plans to release up to 10 million barrels of crude from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve under more flexible return terms in a bid to encourage participation from buyers.

Across global energy markets supply adjustments and operational disruptions continue to shape pricing dynamics. A temporary reduction in output at a major liquefied natural gas facility in the United States has tightened gas flows while Russia has moved to restrict gasoline exports to stabilize its domestic market during peak demand season.

Other developments highlight the broader strain on energy systems. Bangladesh has introduced nationwide energy saving measures including reduced working hours to manage fuel shortages while European authorities have intensified enforcement actions against sanctioned vessels linked to illicit oil trade.

At the same time Venezuela crude exports have risen above one million barrels per day supported by stronger demand from international buyers particularly in Asia.

Despite some easing in Asian liquefied natural gas prices global energy markets remain under pressure from supply uncertainties and geopolitical risks. The sustained rally in oil prices underscores the growing sensitivity of markets to disruptions in key transit routes and the limited availability of immediately accessible supply.
