The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria has congratulated Salimon Oladiti on his election as president of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers.
Oladiti emerged at a delegate election held in Lagos on April 24, succeeding Williams Akporeha, whose tenure PETROAN credited with salary improvements, infrastructural development, and the maintenance of industrial peace within the union.
PETROAN's National President, Billy Gillis-Harry, described Oladiti's election as an opportunity to deepen cooperation between the two associations and reaffirmed the organisation's commitment to continued partnership with NUPENG in advancing stability across Nigeria's oil and gas industry.
Gillis-Harry used the occasion to call on the new NUPENG leadership to advocate for the revival of Nigeria's government-owned refineries, arguing that functional refineries would introduce competition into the downstream sector, generate employment, and reduce the country's dependence on imported petroleum products.
Gillis-Harry also urged Oladiti to maintain a working relationship with the Dangote Refinery, describing collaboration between organised labour and major refining operators as necessary for market stability and fair pricing across the sector.
"PETROAN remains confident that under Comrade Oladiti's leadership, NUPENG will continue to foster industrial harmony, deepen stakeholder engagement, and protect the collective interests of workers and operators in the downstream petroleum sector," Gillis-Harry said.
