Petroleumprice.ng has launched the Petroleum Prize, Recognition and Awards 2025, a new initiative designed to assess performance, accountability, and impact across Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
The award scheme, introduced for the first time in 2025, focuses on operators and institutions whose activities have influenced fuel pricing, supply reliability, advocacy, and market development within the downstream value chain.
Emphasis on Measurable Impact
According to the platform, the Petroleum Prize departs from conventional industry honours. Instead, it combines user participation with expert evaluation to reflect real market conditions.
Petroleumprice.ng said the structure aligns with its focus on data transparency and market feedback. As a price-tracking and market intelligence platform, it noted that stakeholders often feel the effects of pricing decisions, supply disruptions, and policy changes directly.
By giving these stakeholders a formal role in industry recognition, the platform said the initiative strengthens accountability across the value chain.
2025 Petroleum Prize Recipients
The 2025 Petroleum Prize recipients are:
- Best Fuel Station of the Year: MRS Oil
- Petroleum Depot Owner of the Year: Gabriel Ogbechie (Rainoil)
- Best Female Petroleum Depot Owner of the Year: Samson Victoria (BOVAS)
- Downstream Petroleum Industry Advocate of the Year: Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN)
- Downstream Sector Personality of the Year: Aliko Dangote
According to the organisers, the selections reflect performance in operational efficiency, market influence, and sector-wide impact during the review period.
Voting and Assessment Framework
Petroleumprice.ng said it designed the awards framework to ensure credibility and independence.
Users across the downstream sector contributed 60 per cent of the final score. These participants included marketers, depot operators, transporters, and end-users.
A panel of four independent judges provided the remaining 40 per cent. Each judge contributed an equal share. Their assessment focused on measurable impact, consistency, and contribution to market stability.
The platform said this hybrid approach balances market experience with professional judgment.
Industry Context and Future Editions
Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector has seen major changes in recent years. Deregulation, infrastructure expansion, and increased private-sector participation have reshaped market operations.
Against this backdrop, Petroleumprice.ng stated that the Petroleum Prize aims to document and acknowledge leadership during a period of transition, rather than promoting individual brands.
The platform described the initiative as the first downstream-focused recognition framework in Nigeria, built primarily on user participation and supported by structured expert review.
Petroleumprice.ng added that future editions will rely on open participation, published criteria, and a consistent scoring framework to maintain transparency and industry trust.
