Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) has named Ronald Adams as its new Managing Director, effective October 1. Adams, who previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic LNG in Trinidad and Tobago, takes over from Elohor Aiboni, who is set to begin an international assignment with Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) as Asset Director.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday by SNEPCo’s Media Relations Manager, Gladys Afam-Anadu.
Osagie Okunbor, Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, welcomed Adams’ appointment, stating, “I’m pleased to welcome Ronald to Nigeria to consolidate and further improve SNEPCo’s outstanding performances in deep-water production and life-changing social investments across the country.”
Okunbor also praised Aiboni for her achievements during her tenure, which began in August 2021, saying, “The assignment in Brunei is another opportunity for Elohor to make excellent contributions to the Shell Group.”
Adams brings over three decades of experience in the energy industry, having successfully led both Shell-operated and non-operated ventures through various commercial and technical challenges. He holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of the West Indies and an MBA with a specialisation in Strategic Planning from Herriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and staying active at the gym.
Commenting on his new role, Adams said, “I’m excited at the opportunity to be part of SNEPCo’s success story and look forward to working with the talented team to deliver even more value to stakeholders.”
The statement also highlighted the milestones achieved under Aiboni’s leadership. Reflecting on her tenure, Aiboni expressed gratitude, saying, “It has been a great honour to work alongside colleagues and external stakeholders in our efforts to build a safer, simpler, and cost-disciplined business that continues to lead deep-water operations in Nigeria. I’m particularly grateful for the invaluable support and encouragement of our concessionaire and co-venture partners, which made the task easier.”
SNEPCo pioneered Nigeria’s deep-water oil development in 2005, commencing production at the Bonga field, using the 225,000-barrel-per-day Bonga Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading vessel, which is anchored 120 kilometres offshore in the Gulf of Guinea.
