Soroman Nigeria Limited has loaded its first 20,000-metric-tonne cargo of petrol under the Dangote Petroleum Refinery's consortium arrangement, with the shipment scheduled for delivery to its depot in Calabar, Cross River State.
The cargo, loaded aboard the vessel African Marvel, marks the company's entry into the refinery's consortium-based supply arrangement, through which approved petroleum marketers purchase products for distribution to the domestic market.
The arrangement is part of the refinery's distribution framework, which brings downstream operators into structured off-take agreements for the supply of refined petroleum products. Participating marketers can receive products from the refinery and distribute them through their respective depots and retail networks.
Soroman's cargo is expected to serve its distribution operations in the South-South region, with Calabar providing a receiving point for the shipment. The movement of the product from the refinery in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos, to the company's depot also highlights the role of coastal shipping and depot infrastructure in distributing petroleum products across the country.
The transaction is priced with reference to the dollar, with payment to be settled in naira under the agreed commercial terms. The applicable exchange rate, quotation validity and payment conditions are governed by the agreement between the parties.
The pricing structure reflects the commercial arrangements that can apply to petroleum transactions in Nigeria, where international pricing benchmarks and domestic currency settlement intersect. However, the terms of the transaction should not be taken as a standard applicable to all purchases under the consortium arrangement.
The development comes amid changes in Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector following the commencement of operations at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which has a stated nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. The refinery's supply arrangements have created new channels through which domestic marketers can source locally refined products for distribution.
Under the consortium model, participating marketers serve as intermediaries between the refinery and downstream markets, using their distribution infrastructure to move products to different parts of the country.
Soroman Nigeria Limited has business interests beyond oil and gas, including engineering, procurement and construction, mining, manufacturing, agriculture and food-related value chains.
