The Coalition for Change in Nigeria Demands Oil and Gas Transparency

The Coalition for Change in Nigeria (CCN) has called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to address the pressing concerns within the nation’s oil and gas sector.

CCN Convener Dr Emmanuel Agabi emphasised the need for transparency and accountability during a briefing on Wednesday.

“The Nigerian people demand urgent action on three critical areas: fuel pricing, local refinery expenditures, and disclosure surroundings the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline Project,” Dr Agabi stated.

The CCN questioned sustained high fuel prices despite deregulation, seeking urgent clarification from NNPCL. While supporting deregulation, the coalition criticised its implementation, citing opaque pricing mechanisms.

The coalition also demanded a public inquiry into billions of naira invested in local refineries, particularly Port Harcourt Refinery, to ensure transparency and accountability.

Furthermore, the CCN sought comprehensive disclosure of financial and contractual details surrounding the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline Project.

Dr Agabi rejected refining operation monopolies, advocating diversified capacity through modular refineries to create jobs, reduce costs, and ensure stable energy supply.

“The Nigerian people will not tolerate monopolisation or opaque dealings. We must prioritise transparency, accountability, and national interests,” Dr Agabi said.

The CCN urged the Federal Government and NNPCL to take immediate action to address these concerns, ensuring the oil and gas sector serves the nation’s interests.
