The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)inaugural lecture has provided insights into the underlying causes of the country’s insecurity, poverty and devastating violence.
The National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, said this during the news wire services’ 1st Annual International Lecture on Thursday in Abuja. He said many vested Interests in the oil and gas sector are making huge sums of money at the expense of the citizens.
While making his submission at the lecture titled “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges- Genesis, Impacts & Options,” Ribadu said “Take note of what I’m saying. For the first time in Nigeria, we are confronting the evil of those who continue to take from the poor through subsidy regimes. International traders, oil marketers among others,” Ribadu stated.
He went on to add, “It is only in Nigeria where you find hundreds and hundreds of thousands of empty filling stations. Drive from here and go to Kaduna, you will count how many such filling stations, they are all taking from that.”
The NSA said “… probably for a long time, we are going to cut our clothes according to our own clothes. And develop this economy and grow and change things.”
” It is happening. It is happening in my area where for the first time maybe we are going to take on this issue of Almajiri. They refuse to allow our children to go to school, for their selfish reasons”
