President Bola Tinubu has nominated three new executive directors and renewed the nominations of three serving officials for positions at the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The six nominees are expected to serve five-year terms if confirmed, while the President has urged the Senate to consider their appointments promptly to maintain institutional continuity and strengthen the regulator’s oversight capacity.
The nominations were conveyed to the Senate in a letter dated October 30, 2026, according to a statement issued on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
The three officials nominated for another term are Abiodun Adeniji, Executive Director of Finance and Accounts; Ogbugo Ukoha, Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Mustapha Lamorde, Executive Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
The new nominees are Mobolaji Musa for Executive Director of Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie for Executive Director of Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib for Executive Director of Corporate Services and Administration.
Their proposed appointments cover key areas of the authority’s operations, including petroleum infrastructure, economic regulation, financial management, environmental and safety oversight, and corporate administration.
In addition to the executive director nominations, Tinubu approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the NMDPRA Board and Legal Adviser. Her appointment remains subject to the completion of statutory procedures under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.
The latest nominations follow Tinubu’s appointment of Rabiu Umar as the authority’s chief executive in April.
The Senate’s consideration of the nominees will determine whether the six executive director appointments proceed to confirmation.
