Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday commissioned the corporate headquarters of Northwest Petroleum & Gas Company Limited in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Shettima said the facility showed the company intended to operate for decades in a changing global energy economy, and that it would give staff, partners and stakeholders a place to collaborate.
He attributed renewed investment and stronger performance in the oil and gas industry to the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu, citing the removal of petrol subsidy and the reform of the foreign exchange market. "We recognise the sacrifices reform has demanded, and our obligation is to translate economic progress into better lives," he said.
The Vice President said government cannot create prosperity by proclamation and urged private firms to turn investment into jobs. He commended the company for operating across the oil and gas value chain since 1998, and said he expected the headquarters to improve coordination and create demand for suppliers, transport and maintenance services in its host community.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the state remains committed to providing an enabling environment for private investors. He thanked firms in oil and gas, financial services and construction for investing in Lagos.
The company's founder and chief executive, Winifred Akpani, said the facility reflects its growth and its aim to meet high operating standards as the global energy sector changes. She said the industry's future depends on innovation, technology, responsible investment, partnerships and the development of Nigerian talent.
