Kaduna Refinery Rehabilitation: No Fixed Completion Date Yet – NNPCL

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has clarified that no specific completion date has been set for the ongoing Quick Fix Project at the Kaduna Refinery.

While Dr. Mustafa Sugungun, Managing Director of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), initially projected the project’s completion by the end of 2024, recent statements suggest otherwise.

The $741 million rehabilitation contract was awarded to South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction to restore the refinery’s 110,000-barrels-per-day capacity to at least 60% by the end of 2024.

During the commissioning of renovated facilities at Rido Community Primary School and a solar-powered borehole in Maraban Rido, Kaduna State—initiatives under KRPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)—Dr. Sugungun, represented by Manager Operations Mr. Emmanuel Ajiboye, reiterated the broader economic impact of the project. He stated:

“The success of the Quick Fix Project will bring immense economic benefits, job opportunities, boost petty trading, and foster other local businesses.”

Ajiboye further highlighted the CSR projects, noting that the school renovation would enhance learning conditions for pupils and teachers, while the borehole would alleviate water scarcity. He reaffirmed KRPC’s dedication to sustainable development, emphasising initiatives such as youth empowerment, rural electrification, medical outreach, and other community-focused programs.

He appealed to the Rido community for their continued support, stressing that the success of the Quick Fix Project would further solidify the relationship between KRPC and its host communities.

In response to reports attributing a definitive completion date to a staff of Kaduna Refinery, NNPCL spokesman Femi Soneye clarified:

“We have noted a report claiming that our staff indicated the completion date for the KRPC Quick Fix Project as December 2024. We wish to clarify that the project is progressing steadily in accordance with the contractually defined scope of work. The planned completion date will depend on the successful completion of this scope and any additional work arising from third-party inspections of critical equipment. Once a definitive completion date is determined, it will be communicated accordingly.”
